Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just installed a new (but older) HP952XL Black ink cartridge (from a pack of 2) into my OfficeJet Pro 7740 printer and I get an error message saying that it is an older generation cartridge that does not work in my printer. Is there anything that I can I do about this?

Hi @DanKik, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating to deal with this error message. The issue you're encountering is likely due to a firmware update on your printer that prevents the use of older generation cartridges. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve this:

  1. Check for Firmware Updates: Ensure your printer has the latest firmware installed. Sometimes, updating the firmware can resolve compatibility issues.

  2. Reset the Printer: Turn off your printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about a minute, and then plug it back in and turn it on.

  3. Reinstall the Cartridge: Remove the cartridge, clean the contacts with a lint-free cloth, and reinstall it to ensure a proper connection.

  4. Use a Different Cartridge: If possible, try using a newer generation HP952XL cartridge that is compatible with your printer model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
