Hi @Coombs,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

I understand that you are having issues with print quality.

If your HP DeskJet 2710e All-In-One Printer is not printing after replacing the black cartridge and black-and-white copies are coming out blank, you can try the following troubleshooting steps:

1. Check Cartridge Installation

  • Ensure Proper Installation: Open the printer's cartridge access door and make sure the black cartridge is properly seated and clicked into place.
  • Remove Protective Tape: Make sure you have removed any protective tape covering the ink nozzles of the new cartridge.

2. Align the Printer

  • Align the Cartridges: Aligning the cartridges can often resolve print quality issues.
    • Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
    • Go to Printer Settings > Maintenance > Align Cartridges and follow the on-screen instructions.

3. Clean the Printhead

  • Automatic Printhead Cleaning: Use the printer's built-in cleaning feature to clean the printhead.
    • In the HP Smart app, go to Printer Settings > Maintenance > Clean Printheads and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Manual Cleaning: If automatic cleaning doesn’t work, you can manually clean the printhead.
    • Open the printer and remove the black ink cartridge.
    • Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to gently clean the printhead where the ink is dispensed.
    • Reinsert the cartridge and try printing again.

Check for Firmware Updates

  • Update Firmware: Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date, as updates can fix known issues.
    • Open the HP Smart app, go to Printer Settings > Advanced Settings > Check for Updates, and follow any available prompts. Or click here

5. Check Ink Levels

  • Verify Ink Levels: Check the ink levels to ensure the new cartridge is recognized and not defective.
    • In the HP Smart app, go to Printer Status and check the ink levels. If the black cartridge shows as low or empty, it may be defective.

Reset the Printer

  • Power Cycle the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug the power cord, wait for 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

7. Run Diagnostic Tests

  • Print Quality Diagnostic Report: Print a diagnostic report to identify any issues.
    • In the HP Smart app, go to Printer Settings > Maintenance > Print Quality Diagnostic Report.

8. Reinstall the Cartridge

  • Reinstall the Cartridge: Remove the black cartridge, turn off the printer, wait for a minute, then reinstall the cartridge and turn the printer back on.

9. Check for Any Error Messages

  • Look for Errors: Check the printer's control panel or the HP Smart app for any error messages related to the cartridge.

Try Another Cartridge

  • Test with Another Cartridge: If you have another black cartridge available, try installing it to see if the issue persists. This will help determine if the new cartridge is defective.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, the new cartridge might be defective or the printer. In that case, consider contacting the phone support.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
