Hi @RRRacing,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When a new blue ink cartridge shows as empty on your HP printer, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Steps to Resolve New Cartridge Error

Check Cartridge Installation:

  • Ensure the cartridge is properly installed. Remove it and reinsert it to make sure it clicks into place.

Clean Cartridge Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Remove the cartridge and gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridge and the corresponding contacts inside the printer with a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water.
  • Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinstalling the cartridge.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for 60 seconds before plugging it back in and turning it on.
  • Reinstall the cartridge and check if the error is resolved.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Check for any available firmware updates for your printer model on the HP support website. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve cartridge recognition issues.

Try Another Cartridge:

  • If possible, try using a different blue cartridge to determine if the issue is with the cartridge or the printer.

Inspect for Protective Tape:

  • Ensure that any protective tape or plastic covering has been removed from the new cartridge.

Run Printer Diagnostics:

  • Use the printer’s built-in diagnostics or HP's software utility to run a cartridge test and follow any recommended actions.

Use Genuine HP Cartridges:

  • Make sure you are using genuine HP cartridges. Third-party or refilled cartridges might not always be recognized properly by the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
