Hi @Lalalollypop ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP OfficeJet 4650 is printing blank sheets even after installing a new ink cartridge and showing a low ink notice, here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Verify Cartridge Installation

  • Open the printer's ink cartridge access door.
  • Ensure the new cartridge is installed correctly and securely in the correct slot.
  • Check that the plastic protective tape on the cartridge's printhead has been removed.

2. Check for Ink Levels

  • Access the printer’s control panel or the HP Smart app to check ink levels.
  • If the printer still shows a low ink warning despite using a new cartridge, the cartridge may be faulty or improperly recognized.

3. Clean the Printhead

  • On the printer’s control panel or via the HP Smart app, navigate to maintenance or tools and run a printhead cleaning cycle.
  • After cleaning, print a test page to see if the issue is resolved.

4. Check for Compatibility

  • Ensure you’re using a genuine HP ink cartridge compatible with the OfficeJet 4650 model.
  • Compatible cartridge numbers for the OfficeJet 4650 are usually HP 63 or HP 63XL.

5. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for 2–3 minutes before plugging it back in and turning it on.
  • Print a test page.

6. Update the Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Check if a firmware update is available for your printer.
  • Use the HP Smart app or download the update from the HP support website.

7. Inspect the Cartridge and Printhead

  • If the above steps don’t work:
    1. Remove the cartridge and inspect the copper contacts for dirt or damage.
    2. Use a lint-free cloth and distilled water to gently clean the contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer.
    3. Reinsert the cartridge and test again.

8. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn on the printer, then unplug it while it’s powered on.
  • Disconnect it from the power source for at least 10 minutes.
  • Reconnect and power on the printer.

9. Test with Another Cartridge

  • If possible, try using another cartridge to rule out a defective new cartridge.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
