Hi @Chris271948,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you're facing an issue where your HP Officejet Pro 6968 prints colours but not black after replacing the cartridge. Since you've already performed some maintenance, let's go through a few additional steps to help resolve this:

Step 1: Check the Black Ink Cartridge

First, ensure the new black ink cartridge is installed correctly and is not defective:

  1. Remove and Reinstall the Cartridge:
    • Open the printer’s cartridge access door.
    • Remove the black ink cartridge and check for any protective tape that might still be covering the cartridge.
    • Reinstall the cartridge firmly back into its slot.
  2. Inspect the Ink Cartridge:
    • Sometimes, new cartridges can be defective. If possible, try using a different black ink cartridge (even an older one if available) to see if the problem persists.

Step 2: Run a Printhead Cleaning

Even though you've done some maintenance, it's good to try a Printhead Cleaning again, as clogged printheads could cause issues with black ink:

  1. Access Printer Settings:
    • On the printer’s control panel, go to the Setup menu.
    • Select Tools, then choose Clean Printhead.
  2. Wait for the Cleaning to Complete:
    • Allow the printer to complete the cleaning process. This may take a few minutes.
  3. Check Print Quality:
    • After the cleaning, try printing a test page to see if the black ink is now printing correctly.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
