HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g
Microsoft Windows 11

Replaced new magenta ink cartridge, printer recognized the cartridge at first, the printer went through a preparation

phase, and then the cartridge failed.   Message says one or more of the cartridges appear to be damaged.  Remove and replace with a new cartridge.  The new cartridge gave the same error.  They are not original HP cartridges, but have worked well in the past.

Hi @Bebshay60,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're encountering a frustrating issue with your printer. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the problem:

  • Verify Cartridge Installation: Ensure that the new cartridge is properly installed. Make sure it is securely seated in its slot and that the protective tape or seal has been removed from the cartridge.
  • Clean Cartridge Contacts: Sometimes, ink residue or debris can accumulate on the cartridge contacts, causing communication errors. Gently clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridge and the printer with a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water. Be careful not to touch the nozzles or contacts with your fingers.
  • Restart Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for a few minutes. Then, plug it back in and turn it on. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary issues.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model on the HP support website. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve compatibility issues and improve printer performance. Update the firmware on an HP printer
  • Check for Printer Driver Updates: Make sure you have the latest printer drivers installed on your computer. You can download and install the latest drivers from the HP website or through the Windows Update feature in Windows 11.
  • Try Another Cartridge: If possible, try using a different new cartridge, preferably an original HP cartridge, to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with the cartridge itself or with the printer.
