HP OfficeJet 6958 All-in-One Printer

HP OfficeJet 6958 new Cyan print cartridge fades out immediately.  I have aligned printer heads, ran the print head cleaning option  Replaced cartridge 2X's thinking it was a faulty cartridge.  Thanks for any help.  Thinking it may be time for a new printer.

Follow these troubleshooting steps before considering a replacement printer:

Check Cartridge and Installation

  • Ensure the Cyan cartridge is properly installed in the cartridge slot.
  • Open the printer cover and re-seat the cartridge to ensure it is properly connected.
  • Make sure you are using genuine HP cartridges. Third-party or refilled cartridges may cause printing issues.

Perform Printer Maintenance

Printhead Cleaning:

  • Access the printer’s maintenance menu and run the Printhead Cleaning option multiple times if necessary.

Printhead Alignment:

  • Perform an alignment of the printer heads. The printer should guide you through this process from the maintenance menu.

Manual Cleaning:

  • Turn off the printer and gently clean the printhead contacts with a lint-free cloth and distilled water.

Run Diagnostic and Print Quality Tests

Print a Diagnostic Page:

  • From the printer’s control panel, navigate to the Tools menu and print a "Print Quality Diagnostic Page."
  • Check the report for any visible issues with the Cyan color.

Print a Print Quality Report:

  • Access the Tools menu and print a "Print Quality Report." This will provide further insights into whether the issue is with the cartridge or the printer hardware.

Update Printer Firmware

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Visit the HP Support page for the HP OfficeJet 6958 and download any available firmware updates.

Install Firmware Update:

  • Follow the instructions to install the update and restart your printer.

Check Printer Settings

  1. Check Print Settings:
    • Ensure the print settings are correct. Sometimes, incorrect settings might cause issues with print quality.
    • Ensure that the color balance, quality, and paper type settings are properly configured.
