Microsoft Windows 11

I bought this HP3755 Deskjet for Micr ink checks last July. It didn't like the black ink cartridge it came with so ordered a new one. That one worked fine for 7 months. But now it's out of black ink, after printing less than 100 checks. I ordered a new identical cartiridge again, and it doesn't like it......again. It's like it doesn't recognize it. The cartridge indicator just blinks. I am desperate as I can't print any other type of checks for this client. Can anyone assist with information that I could try to get this working? I can't just keep ordering cartridges hoping they work and I don't want to spend more money on another printer!

@JWolfley, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your HP3755 Deskjet printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand how frustrating this must be, especially when you need the printer for critical tasks. Here are some troubleshooting steps to try and get your HP DeskJet 3755 to recognize the new black ink cartridge:

1. Check Cartridge Compatibility

  • Ensure that the cartridge is the correct model for your printer. The HP DeskJet 3755 typically uses HP 65 (U.S.) cartridges.
  • If you purchased a third-party or remanufactured cartridge, consider trying an original HP cartridge.

2. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Remove the new cartridge and unplug the printer from the power source.
  • Wait for 5-10 minutes.
  • Plug the printer back in and reinstall the cartridge.
  • Restart your computer (if applicable) and check if the error persists.

3. Clean the Cartridge and Printer Contacts

  • Turn off the printer and remove the cartridge.
  • Use a lint-free cloth or a cotton swab slightly dampened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol to gently clean the gold contacts on both the cartridge and inside the printer.
  • Let them dry completely before reinserting the cartridge.

4. Update or Reinstall Printer Firmware & Drivers

  • Visit HP support website to check if there's a firmware update available for your printer.
  • Reinstall the printer driver from HP website to ensure your system is recognizing the printer properly.

5. Check for Protective Tape

  • Double-check if the protective plastic tape on the cartridge’s contacts was fully removed before installation.

6. Perform a Printer Alignment

  • If the printer recognizes the cartridge but isn't printing correctly, try running a cartridge alignment via the printer's control panel or HP Smart App.

Let me know if this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
