Right from the beginning there has been no indication of ink levels in the tank windows on the front of the printer. I've checked both the user guide and the printer itself to see if there is some kind of covering that needs to be removed but there is no covering. The windows are dark and look opaque - very frustrating to see all of the illustrations showing vibrant colors in these dark windows!

@BinRochester,Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for your detailed message! I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

I can certainly help with that. If you're using an HP printer and the ink tank windows are opaque or dark, don't worry—it's a common feature for many models, especially with integrated ink tanks.

Here’s how you can check the ink levels on an HP printer:

Using HP Printer Software (on your computer):

  • Windows:
    1. Open the HP Smart app or HP Printer Assistant.
    2. Select your printer from the list.
    3. In the main menu, look for the "Ink Levels" or "Printer Status" section. This will give you a digital readout of the ink levels for your printer.

Using the HP Support Website or App:

If you have the HP Smart App installed on your smartphone, you can also check the ink levels directly from there. Just open the app, select your printer, and it will show the ink levels.

Alerts:

Here’s how your HP printer will indicate low or empty ink levels:

  • Ink icons and Resume light are on: This means one or more ink tanks are low on ink. Simply refill the indicated ink tank.
  • Attention light on, ink icons blinking, and Resume light on: This indicates that one or more ink tanks are very low on ink. Refill the indicated ink tank to resolve the issue.
  • Attention light on, error code E7, and ink icons blinking: This shows that one or more ink tanks are completely out of ink. Refill the indicated ink tank immediately.

I hope these steps help resolve the issue
