Hello!
For as long as I have had this HP OfficeJet Pro 8025 printer, I used Instant Ink. I recently canceled my subscription because I wasn't printing nearly enough to make the subscription price worth it. I ordered replacement cartridges for the printer that stated they were compatible with the OfficeJet Pro 8025, but since they are not HP brand, they are not working. I was not aware that I had to specifically buy HP brand cartridges for the printer, but rather assumed that as long as they were compatible with the printer itself (which the product stated that it is compatible with), it would work.
Upon further research today, I have discovered that this is due to my printer automatically updating the firmware, which now blocks third-party cartridges from being used. I have also learned that there is a way to download the downgrade of the firmware to get it back to accepting third-party cartridges. I have yet to find the specific file to download for my specific model of printer (OfficeJet Pro 8025) and was wondering how I can find this file or if anyone had any other advice for this issue.
For context on all of the other things I have tried which has led to the conclusion that I probably need to download a downgrade of firmware of my OfficeJet Pro 8025 is a power drain (Removing the power cord from the wall, holding the power button for 15 seconds, waiting 30 seconds, then replugging it back in), and also a factory reset. Both have led to the same "Non-HP Chip Detected" message on my printer screen.
It just seems impossible to find the specific firmware downgrade file for an OfficeJet Pro 8025... any help is appreciated and thank you in advance!!

Hi @MamasRage,
Welcome to the HP Support Community
I'd like to help!
You may refill your cartridges or use remanufactured cartridges, but you may run into problems. HP will not guarantee the functionality of those ink cartridges.
There are many cartridges in the market which is refilled and sometimes the chip is not configured to work with the printer. You need to contact the cartridge manufacturer and find out why it's not working. Try a different cartridge supplier and check if that works.

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.

HP does not post outdated firmware files, they were updated for several reasons, one of which is yes ensuring compliance with cartridge usage but also security features that protect a printer from being hijacked and used to compromise your network. I would contact the vendor of the cartridges you purchased as they often either have or can point you in the direction of the file you are looking for.

Hello!
Thank you for your response and I will gladly reach out to the supplier of the ink which I received to see why they are not working properly. Is there a list of credible suppliers that sell third party ink that are known to work with the HP printers? Or a link I could buy ink from that will work with my printer? I appreciate your help.
