I regularly change the ink cartridges. This time when I changed the black ink cartridge I received a message to remove and reinsert. When I did this, the message kept coming back. I tried 2 other new black ink cartridges and each time I got the same message.

Hi @SallieJ,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds frustrating to deal with repeated error messages after changing your ink cartridge. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:
Check the Cartridge Compatibility: Make sure that the cartridges are compatible with your printer model. Sometimes, even small differences in model numbers can mean a cartridge won't work properly in a printer.
Inspect the Cartridge and Printer Contacts: The contacts on both the cartridge and the printer should be clean and free of any debris or ink residue. Gently clean the contacts with a soft, lint-free cloth or a bit of isopropyl alcohol. Make sure everything is dry before reinserting the cartridge.
Reset the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it for about a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes clear errors that continue to show up.
Firmware or Software Update: Check if there are any updates available for your printer’s firmware or software. An update might fix bugs related to cartridge recognition.
Reinstall the Old Cartridge: If possible, try reinstalling the old cartridge to see if the printer recognizes it. If it does, the issue might be with the new cartridges, even if they are new and out of the box.
Check for Obstructions: Make sure there are no obstructions in the cartridge area that could prevent the cartridge from seating properly.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
