Hi @Mark984,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 displayed an error message after replacing the ink cartridge, it’s likely related to either the cartridge installation or a printer hardware issue. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot.
- Power Cycle the Printer: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for about 60 seconds before plugging it back in and turning it on. This can often reset any temporary issues.
- Check Cartridge Installation: Open the ink cartridge access door and ensure that each cartridge is seated correctly and securely in place. Sometimes, cartridges need a firm press to fully engage with the printer’s connectors.
- Clean Cartridge Contacts: Gently clean the copper contacts on the cartridge with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water. Also, clean the contacts in the cartridge slot, if accessible. This can help resolve issues with connectivity between the cartridge and printer.
- Use Original HP Cartridges: Ensure you are using genuine HP ink cartridges. The printer might reject third-party or refilled cartridges and display an error.
- Reset the Printer: Go to the printer’s settings menu and look for a reset option (usually under Printer Maintenance or Settings > Restore Defaults). Performing a reset can sometimes resolve errors after a new cartridge installation.
- Update Firmware: If the printer firmware is outdated, updating it may resolve cartridge errors. You can update the firmware via HP’s support website if the printer is connected to the internet.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
