HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 All-in-One Printer

Will not print in color.  Did all the print head cleaning and realignment routines and they did not work.  Also have not instant ink cartridges for all colors installed  Have updated the drivers, etc.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 is not printing in color despite completing all the print head cleaning and realignment routines, updating drivers, and having genuine HP Instant Ink cartridges installed, here are a few more steps you can try.

 

Additional Troubleshooting Steps

Check Print Settings:

  • Ensure that the print settings are not set to print in grayscale or black and white.
  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 and select Printing Preferences.
  • Make sure the Print in Grayscale option is not selected.

Run a Diagnostic Print:

  • Print a diagnostic page from the printer's control panel to see if all colors are printing.
  • On the printer, go to Setup > Reports > Print Quality Report.

Check Ink Levels:

  • Verify that the ink levels are sufficient for all colors.
  • On the printer's control panel, go to Ink Levels to check the status of the ink cartridges.

Reset the Printer:

  • Sometimes, a hard reset can resolve printing issues.
  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 60 seconds, and then plug it back in and turn it on.

Firmware Update:

  • Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date.
  • Go to the HP website and check for any available firmware updates for your printer model.

Clean the Printhead Manually:

  • If automated printhead cleaning did not resolve the issue, consider manually cleaning the printhead.
  • Follow HP's instructions for safely removing and cleaning the printhead using distilled water and lint-free cloths.

Advanced Troubleshooting

If the above steps do not resolve the issue, you might need to perform a more in-depth analysis.

 

Remove and Reinsert Cartridges:

  • Remove all ink cartridges and inspect them for any damage or blockages.
  • Reinsert the cartridges securely and run a printhead cleaning cycle.

Check for Air in Ink Lines:

  • Air bubbles in the ink lines can prevent ink from flowing correctly.
  • Run several printhead cleaning cycles to clear any air bubbles.

Service Mode Diagnostics:

  • Some HP printers have a service mode that allows for deeper diagnostics and printhead purges.

 

By following these steps, you should be able to identify and hopefully resolve the issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 not printing in color.
