HP OfficeJet Pro 8725 All-in-One Printer

952XL cartridges (F6U19A) are not working.  Printer indicates cartridge with "K" and says "The indicated cartridge is an older generation cartridge that does not work in your printer. ... If you do not own an older printer model and your cartridge is a genuine HP cartridge, contact HP Support for more information."  I've tried 2 different cartridges multiple times, restarted printer several times, unplugged and waited a couple minutes.  No change - cartridges will not be accepted. 

 

I bought these cartridges from a local OfficeMax store here in the US probably less than a year ago.  What is going on HP?

I understand you're dealing with an issue where the printer is not recognizing the 952XL cartridges as compatible.

Check Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Ensure that the 952XL cartridges you have are compatible with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8725. Sometimes, cartridges from other series or older versions might be mistakenly used.

Verify Cartridge Authenticity:

  • Confirm that the cartridges are genuine HP products. Even if you bought them from an authorized retailer like OfficeMax, it's worth checking that they are not counterfeit or expired.

Inspect Cartridge and Printer Contacts:

  • Remove the cartridges and inspect both the cartridges and the contacts inside the printer for any dirt or damage. Clean the contacts gently with a lint-free cloth if necessary.

Update Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Make sure your printer’s firmware is up-to-date. Sometimes, an outdated firmware can cause compatibility issues. You can usually find firmware updates on HP's official website.

Reset Printer Settings:

  • Perform a factory reset on your printer. This can sometimes resolve issues related to cartridge recognition.
