HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer - N911a
Printer was printing, but it had a low Magenta ink, so I replaced it with a brand new HP Magenta cartridge.  As soon as I installed it, I got the PRINTER FAILURE message - there is a problem with the printer or ink system.

I followed the instructions and turned on/off the machine as directed, changed the cartridge, and cleaned the contacts.  Removed the printhead and cleaned it as instructed, but I have the same error message, and cannot even do a reset because I cannot get rid of the message and return to the menu.

I am stuck with new cartridges for a printer I cannot get to work 😞    HELP

@milk99, Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Community! 🎉

I’m here to help you troubleshoot your issue and get things back on track. Just follow these steps below, and we’ll have you running smoothly in no time:

Turn Off the Printer:

  • Power off the printer and unplug it from the wall. Wait for 5-10 minutes to reset the printer's internal system.

2. Remove and Reinstall the Magenta Cartridge:

  • Open the printer’s ink compartment.
  • Remove the new Magenta cartridge you just installed.
  • Gently check that the ink cartridge is inserted correctly and securely.
  • Make sure the cartridge’s protective tape has been fully removed.

3. Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions:

  • Ensure there’s no paper jam or any other obstructions in the printer that might cause the error.

4. Inspect the Printhead:

  • If you haven't already, remove the printhead and check for any ink buildup or debris. Use a soft cloth or tissue to clean it carefully.

5. Check the Ink Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Double-check that the Magenta ink cartridge you installed is compatible with your printer model (Check this guide)

6. Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Sometimes a firmware update can fix printing errors. You can check the printer’s settings through the printer’s control panel or using the HP support website.
