Says "One or more cartridges are missing or damaged."  But the cartridges in question are both brand new.

Hi @Freddddddy,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding cartridge problems on the HP OfficeJet Pro 8020 series!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Use Genuine HP Cartridges: Ensure that you are using genuine HP cartridges, as non-HP cartridges might not be compatible or might cause error messages. You can verify authenticity through the HP Anti-Counterfeit page.

Install Cartridges Correctly:

  • Open the front door of the printer and lift the cartridge access door.
  • Ensure the cartridges are correctly seated in their respective slots. Remove and reinstall them if necessary. Make sure to remove any plastic wrap or orange tabs if present.

Check Cartridge Installation:

  • Hold the cartridge by its side, remove the orange cap by twisting it counter-clockwise.
  • Slide the cartridge into its slot and press down until it clicks into place.

Perform Printhead Cleaning:

  • On the printer control panel, go to Setup > Tools > Clean Printhead to use the automated tool to clean the printhead. Repeat the cleaning cycle if necessary.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Make sure your printer is running the latest firmware. Check for updates via the HP Smart app or on the printer’s control panel under Setup > Printer Maintenance > Update.

I hope this helps.
