I have my second OfficeJet pro 9020 series printer in 7 months. My replacement printer will still not print 4x6 photos properly. The pictures are blurry and completely cut off near the bottom. I spent about 8 hours on HP support's chat and phone with my first printer trying to resolve this. They couldn't remotely resolve the issue, so they sent me a replacement printer and the problem persists. I have the same issue when printing from my mobile phone, from my laptop and whether I'm using HP Smart app or not. I've never had problems printing documents, only photos on photo paper. Help!

It is possible for two different printers to behave in this particular manner - unlikely, but possible.

Could be your paper - not all paper is equal.

What else?

IF you have not done so,

Try / Consider

Photos printed on photo paper, even the smaller 4x6 photo paper, should be checked for the photo file pixels size to be sure the picture / photo can be properly fitted to the size of the paper you are using.

For example, a very low resolution image file (small number of pixels) can be printed onto smaller 4x6 inch paper - the resulting quality might be lacking when the pixel count is so low that the photo must be "stretched" to fit the paper.

Most newer cameras, those in a phone, for example, are generally capable of producing a higher resolution image file.

That said, it is worth checking the data you are trying to print.

  • Open File Explorer > navigate to the folder in which the photo / image is stored
  • Right-Click on Photo file > Properties > Details > Note pixels counts (width and height)

Use Pixels to Print Size Calculator

Check the results for both Calculator #1and Calculator #2

If the number of pixels are low, the ideal print size will be smaller.

Thanks for your reply. I've changed my photo paper (it's another HP glossy photo paper) and have tried printing various photos at different resolutions, all with the same result. It almost looks like there is a problem with the rollers for the photo paper in this printer model. I've never had issues like this with previous printers (even HP).

You are welcome.

I have an OfficeJet Pro 9025 that prints just as expected.

That said, and that you are seeing the same results with two different printers of the same model, a "roller" issue is possible - but it requires both printers to have the exact same mechanical issue.  Sure, could happen - usually doesn't happen "just so".

Thinking on it....

So...Nothing prints properly - two different printers, several devices...

Hours with support, diagnostics, software loaded / reloaded.

If you have not done so,

Connect the printer to the network via Ethernet (best speed / connection).

Consider replacing your paper.  HP Advanced Paper - 250 gsm - comes in different sizes.

Output should look similar (in quality) to the following print sample.

(Sample printed on HP Advanced photo paper - OfficeJet Pro 9025 - then scanned / saved)
