@Mcdragon1, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Poor Print Quality Issues in HP Printers!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If you are experiencing poor print quality, such as missing lines while printing a word document, the following troubleshooting steps can help resolve the issue. Try the solutions in the order presented and stop troubleshooting if one of them fixes the problem.

Step 1: Check for Genuine HP Cartridges

HP recommends using genuine HP cartridges to ensure the best print quality. Non-HP or refilled cartridges might cause print quality issues.

Step 2: Check the Paper

Ensure that you are using the recommended paper type. Paper with the ColorLok logo works well with HP ink and can help resolve print quality problems.

Step 3: Check the Paper Type Settings

Make sure the paper type settings are appropriate for the job you are trying to print. Incorrect settings can cause smearing or missing lines.

Step 4: Print and Evaluate a Print Quality Report

Printing a Print Quality Report can help identify defects and determine whether you need to align the printer or clean the printhead.

Here’s how to print a Print Quality Report:

  1. From the Home screen on the printer control panel, touch the Dashboard strip at the top of the screen.
  2. Touch the gear icon (Image) at the top of the Dashboard to open the Setup menu.
  3. Scroll to and touch Reports.
  4. Touch Print Quality Report and examine the report for defects.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
