Hello,

I am having trouble with the ink cartridges on my HP Envy 5055. When I activated the printer, it told me that the ink cartridges were not properly communicating with the printer. Unfortunately, unplugging the printer and cleaning the cartridges has not helped so far. I'm not sure what to do...

Hi @JG231757,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy 5055 printer is displaying a message that the ink cartridges are not properly communicating with the printer, here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve the issue:

1. Check Cartridge Installation

Turn Off the Printer:

  • Power off the HP Envy 5055 and unplug it from the power source.

Open the Printer:

  • Open the printer’s front door to access the ink cartridge area.

Remove and Reinstall Cartridges:

  • Carefully remove each ink cartridge from its slot.
  • Inspect the cartridges and the slots for any obstructions or damage.
  • Reinstall each cartridge, ensuring they are properly seated and clicked into place.

Close the Printer:

  • Close the printer door and plug the printer back in.
  • Power on the printer.

2. Clean the Ink Cartridge Contacts

Turn Off and Unplug Printer:

  • Ensure the printer is turned off and unplugged before cleaning.

Remove Cartridges:

  • Carefully remove the ink cartridges from the printer.

Clean Cartridge Contacts:

  • Use a lint-free cloth or a swab lightly dampened with distilled water to clean the copper-colored contact points on the cartridges and inside the cartridge slots.

Dry the Contacts:

  • Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinserting the cartridges.

Reinstall Cartridges:

  • Reinstall the cartridges, close the printer door, plug it back in, and turn it on.

3. Check for Cartridge Compatibility

Verify Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Ensure that the ink cartridges you are using are compatible with your HP Envy 5055 printer model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
