Hello
Have you encountered the following problems with Smart Tank Plus 500 serie printer?:
1. Cyan color does not print even though there is ink in the tank. Other colors will print.
- I have cleaned and aligned the print heads with the HP Smart program
2. The print heads do not go to the center of the printer when I open the doors (they do not move at all).

Hi @HarriF,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're dealing with a couple of issues with your HP Smart Tank Plus 550 series printer. Here’s what you can do to address them.
Cyan Color Not Printing
Possible Causes and Solutions:
- Clogged Printhead: Even though you've cleaned the printheads, they might still be clogged. Try using the printhead cleaning utility again, or manually clean the printhead with a lint-free cloth and distilled water.
- Ink Flow Issues: Check the ink tank for any blockages or issues with ink flow. Ensure the ink is flowing properly by gently shaking the ink bottle before refilling the tank.
- Printhead Alignment: You’ve mentioned you've aligned the printheads. It might be worth trying the alignment process again to ensure it was completed successfully.
- Firmware Update: Make sure your printer's firmware is up to date. Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve printing issues.
- Replace Printhead: If none of the above solutions work, you might need to replace the printhead. Sometimes, printheads can become defective and require replacement.
Printheads Not Moving to Center
Possible Causes and Solutions:
- Power Supply Issue: Ensure the printer is properly plugged in and turned on. Sometimes, a power issue can prevent the printhead from moving.
- Obstruction: Check for any obstructions around the printhead carriage area. Sometimes, small bits of paper or debris can block the printhead from moving.
- Printer Error: Resetting the printer can sometimes resolve mechanical issues. Turn off the printer, unplug it, wait a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on.
- Mechanical Malfunction: If the printhead still doesn’t move, there might be a mechanical issue with the printer’s carriage or drive mechanism.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
