Hi,
I have a problem with one of my cartridges, the yellow color. I get a message saying:
“Consumable problem”.
I've set the printer to print in “greyscale” for black and white printing. The printer remains in error and won't print in black and white.
How can I bypass the error message?

Hi @Sybelle,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I understand how frustrating it is when a cartridge issue prevents you from printing, even in black and white. Have you tried reinserting or replacing the yellow cartridge to see if the error clears? Also, is your printer using genuine HP ink, and does the error message specify any further details?

Unfortunately, many HP LaserJet printers require all toner cartridges to be functioning for any printing to work.

Perform the following tasks in the order given. Use the printer after each task to see if the issue is resolved.

Use genuine HP cartridges

  • HP recommends that you use genuine HP ink or toner supplies. HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP or refilled cartridges. If you do not use genuine HP cartridges, the steps in this document might not resolve the issue.
  • To check the authenticity of your cartridges, go to the HP Anti Counterfeiting and Fraud Program.
  • Purchase genuine replacement ink or toner cartridges from local retail stores or from HP www.hp.com/go/suresupply.

Check the paper and quality of the file being printed

  • Make sure your print job is set up for optimal print quality results.
  • Use paper designed for HP LaserJet printers: LaserJet paper is designed to handle the additional heat produced during the printing process.
  • CAUTION:
  • Do not use paper designed only for inkjet printers. For example, inkjet glossy photo paper can blister during the print job, which might damage the printer.
  • Some paper might not absorb toner as well as others, causing faded or smeared prints.
  • Use clean, wrinkle-free paper. Wrinkled or curled paper can cause dark, horizontal defects.
  • Do not use paper that is too rough. Smoother paper can result in better print quality.
  • Load the paper according to the print side: Typically, the smoother or glossy side is the print side, and it is loaded with the print side facing up in the input tray.
  • Check the quality of the photo or document: Use editing tools to improve colors, brightness, contrast, and any other appearance settings. Higher resolution photographs and graphics result in clearer prints with more accurate colors.

Hello, thank you for your reply.
The printer I'm using was sent to me to replace my faulty one.
After several attempts to solve the problem, we have come to the conclusion that one of the ink cartridges is faulty.
As I've been waiting over 2 weeks for a replacement ink cartridge, I wanted to get some relief by printing only in black and white.
Unfortunately, you've told me that's not possible.
So I'm stuck waiting for the cartridge.
Thanks again for your help.
