Hi,

When I print off a page, it is printing OK but there is a smudge/shadow of the top of the print on then end of the paper.

I have checked all the toners and drum looks ok.

Hi @Ailbhe1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding print quality issue with your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

First, check the drum unit for any damage or wear. Even if it looks fine, there might be residual toner or a worn-out section causing ghosting. Try cleaning the drum with a lint-free cloth and reinstalling it properly.

Next, inspect the fuser unit. The fuser bonds the toner to the paper, and if it's dirty or faulty, toner can stick and create ghosting. Try printing a few blank pages to see if any excess toner clears out.

Check the toner cartridges for any leaks or defects. Remove and gently shake each toner cartridge, then reinstall them to ensure even distribution. If any cartridge is leaking or near the end of its lifespan, consider replacing it.

Adjust the paper type settings. If the settings in your printer or driver don’t match the actual paper you're using, it can cause toner adhesion issues. Go to Printer Preferences in Windows and ensure the selected paper type matches what you're printing on (e.g., plain paper, cardstock, glossy).

Perform a cleaning cycle. Many HP printers have a built-in "Cleaning Mode" to remove excess toner from internal components. On the printer's control panel, go to Settings, then Device Maintenance, and select Cleaning Page. Run the cleaning cycle and try printing again.

Test with different paper. Low-quality or moist paper can cause toner adhesion problems. Try using a fresh stack of high-quality paper and see if the issue continues.

If all else fails, reset the printer to factory settings and reinstall the drivers.

Let me know how it goes! 😊
