Hi @Queen2221,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP DeskJet 5255 printer is printing blank pages but can make copies just fine, it suggests that the issue is likely software-related or due to incorrect settings rather than a hardware problem. Here are several troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue:

1. Check Ink Levels

Ensure that both the black and color ink cartridges have sufficient ink. Even if one cartridge is empty or low, it can affect printing.

2. Print a Test Page

Printing a test page can help determine if the issue is with the printer or the computer settings.

  1. From the Printer Control Panel:
    • Go to the printer's menu and find the option to print a test page.
  2. From the Printer Properties on Computer:
    • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers (Windows) or System Preferences > Printers & Scanners (Mac).
    • Right-click on your printer and select Printer Properties.
    • Find and click on Print Test Page.

3. Clean Printhead

Sometimes, the printhead can become clogged, which affects printing.

  1. Using Printer Software:
    • Open the HP Smart app or the printer software installed on your computer.
    • Navigate to the maintenance section and look for the printhead cleaning option.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to clean the printhead.

4. Update Printer Driver

An outdated or corrupt printer driver can cause printing issues.

  1. Uninstall and Reinstall the Printer Driver:
    • Uninstall the current printer driver from your computer.
    • Download the latest driver from the HP Support website specific to your printer model.
    • Install the new driver and restart your computer.

5. Check Printer Settings

Ensure the printer settings are correct.

  1. In the Print Dialogue Box:
    • Make sure you have selected the correct printer.
    • Check the print settings to ensure they are not set to print in "draft mode" or with any special settings that might affect printing.
  2. Reset Printer Settings:
    • Go to the printer's control panel and navigate to the settings.
    • Find the option to reset the printer to its default settings.

6. Use HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows)

HP provides a free tool called HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and resolve printing issues.

  1. Download and Run the Tool:
    • Download the HP Print and Scan Doctor from the HP support website.
    • Run the tool and follow the on-screen instructions to fix any issues.

7. Try Printing from a Different Program or Device

To rule out software issues, try printing from a different application or device.

  1. Different Applications:
    • Try printing a document from another application (e.g., Word, PDF reader, web browser).
  2. Different Devices:
    • Print from another computer or mobile device to see if the issue persists.

8. Check for Firmware Updates

Firmware updates can fix bugs and improve the functionality of your printer.

  1. Update Firmware:
    • Go to the HP support website and check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model.
    • Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.

9. Run Printer Diagnostics

Some printers have built-in diagnostics tools that can help identify and fix issues.

  1. Access Diagnostics:
    • Go to the printer's menu and look for diagnostic tools or reports.
    • Run the diagnostics and follow any recommended actions.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
