I currently get around 50 pages per black ink cartridge. This is extremely low number and twice I have literally purchased a brand new cartridge, put it in the printer and 50 pages in one sitting. At $50 a cartridge that is literally a dollar a page. However a third time I did this and opted not to the printer alignment I was able to print 85 pages before the black ink ran out. Does aligning the printer cut your print capability in half? And as a side not I am only printing text documents, no images and no pictures.

Hi @badblackbishop,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're experiencing unusually low page yields from your HP Envy 6152e All-in-One Printer, especially with black ink cartridges, and you're concerned that printer alignment may be contributing to the issue.
Let me provide you with a few steps that can help solve the issue.
Why You Might Be Getting Only 50–85 Pages
- Full-page text printing: If you're printing full pages of text, your coverage may be closer to 10–15%, which can halve the expected yield.
- Alignment Pages: Alignment uses ink to print test patterns and may consume a small but non-trivial amount of ink. However, it should not cut your yield in half.
- Frequent Cartridge Changes: Every time a new cartridge is installed, the printer may perform priming routines that use ink.
Recommended Actions:
- Check Ink Usage Reports:
- Open the HP Smart App > Printer Settings > Reports > Print Quality Report or Usage Report.
- Open the HP Smart App > Printer Settings > Reports > Print Quality Report or Usage Report.
- Avoid Unnecessary Alignments:
- Only align the printer when print quality is poor or after installing a new cartridge.

- Use XL Cartridges:
- Consider switching to HP 67XL cartridges for better value per page.
- Consider switching to HP 67XL cartridges for better value per page.
- Monitor Ink Levels:
- Use the HP Smart App or printer control panel to track ink usage and detect abnormal drops.
I hope this helps.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
