I replaced printer cartridges with genuine HP952 (3 years old) and now get this message "This cartridge is an older generation cartridge that does not work in your printer. It can still be used in some older printer models".

Hi @Catdaddy123
Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.
The error message you're seeing indicates that the HP 952 cartridges you installed are not compatible with your HP OfficeJet 8702. Here are some steps you can take to resolve the issue:
1. Check Cartridge Compatibility:
- Ensure that the cartridges are indeed compatible with the OfficeJet 8702. Sometimes, even if the cartridge model is correct, the specific version or packaging may be incompatible.
2. Inspect Cartridges:
- Examine the cartridges for any signs of damage or tampering. Make sure that the protective tape or packaging has been completely removed.
3. Firmware Update:
- Check if your printer's firmware is up to date. An outdated firmware may cause compatibility issues. You can update the firmware using the HP Smart app or the HP support website.t
4. Reset the Printer:
- Turn off the printer, unplug it for about a minute, and then plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes reset error messages.
5. Use Different Cartridges:
- If possible, try installing a different set of genuine HP 952 cartridges (preferably ones purchased more recently) to see if the issue persists.
I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
