Hi @Donjr1,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The "Problem with Supply System" error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8725 is often related to an issue with the ink cartridges, printhead, or printer's internal recognition system. Since you've already replaced the yellow cartridge twice, let's try the following steps to troubleshoot the issue.
Power Cycle the Printer
- Turn off the printer and disconnect it from the power source.
- Wait for 2-3 minutes, then reconnect it and power it on.
- Check if the error persists.
Check Cartridge Installation
- Open the cartridge access door and inspect the yellow cartridge.
- Ensure it is seated correctly and securely.
- Remove and reinsert the cartridge to ensure proper contact.
Inspect the Cartridge and Contacts
- Remove the yellow cartridge and check for:
- Dirt, ink, or debris on the cartridge's electrical contacts (gold/copper-colored areas).
- Leaks or physical damage.
- Clean the cartridge contacts with a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water. Allow it to dry before reinserting.
Clean the Printer Contacts
- Use a clean, dry, lint-free cloth to gently clean the electrical contacts inside the printer where the cartridge is installed.
- Be careful not to damage the contacts.
Use Genuine HP Cartridges
- Ensure the cartridges you are using are genuine HP cartridges. Counterfeit or refilled cartridges can sometimes cause supply errors.
Update Printer Firmware
- Outdated firmware may lead to cartridge recognition issues. To update:
- Ensure the printer is connected to your network.
- Go to the printer's control panel, navigate to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Update Printer.

Reset the Printer
- Perform a semi-full reset:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Wait 30 seconds, press and hold the power button for 10 seconds, then reconnect and power it on.
- Note that this may reset some settings.
Inspect the Printhead
- If the above steps do not resolve the issue, the printhead may have a problem.
- Run a printhead cleaning cycle from the printer's menu:
- Setup > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead.
- If cleaning does not help, the printhead may need to be replaced.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
