macOS 12.0 Monterey

HP2540 printer suddenly stopped printing. Ink cartridge levels  are OK and cartridge print heads have been cleaned. Machine works  and sounds exactly as normal but no print other than faint marks in the corner of the paper appears. It looks as if the cartridge heads are not touching the paper with the correct pressure. No thick paper has been used  nor has any damage been done to the machine. The machine has a very easy life and has been used very little. I cannot see any way of adjusting the contact pressure between paper and  cartridges.

Is this  a sign that  it has come to the end of  its useful life?  If so I will replace it , but I would like to fix it if possible.

Any help and advice welcome please
