Hi @CSwift1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP printer is not recognizing a new ink cartridge or is unable to read the ink levels, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue.

  • Ensure Compatibility: Make sure that the ink cartridge you have installed is compatible with your specific HP printer model. Sometimes, using a cartridge that is not compatible can cause issues with recognition.
  • Proper Installation: Double-check that the ink cartridge is correctly installed in the printer. Sometimes, improper installation can prevent the printer from reading the cartridge.
  • Clean Contacts: Remove the ink cartridge and clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridge and inside the printer with a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water. Make sure they are dry before reinstalling the cartridge.
  • Restart Printer: Turn off your printer, wait for a few minutes, and then turn it back on. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve communication issues between the printer and the cartridge.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. Sometimes, outdated firmware can cause compatibility issues with new ink cartridges.
  • Reset Printer: Try resetting the printer to its default settings. This can sometimes resolve software glitches that may be causing the issue.
  • Check for Updates: Make sure your printer driver is up-to-date. You can usually download the latest drivers from the HP website.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the issue with your HP printer not reading the new ink cartridge.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
