Hi @Epenkava,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When an HP ENVY 5530 e-All-in-One Printer doesn't recognize HP cartridges after using aftermarket cartridges, it may indicate that the printer's firmware or memory is causing the issue. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.

Power Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect it from the power source.
  • Wait for 1-2 minutes to allow residual charge to clear.
  • Reconnect the printer and power it on.

Clean the Cartridge Contacts

  • Remove the HP cartridges from the printer.
  • Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol.
  • Gently clean the copper contacts on the cartridges and inside the cartridge slots.
  • Allow the contacts to dry before reinserting the cartridges.

Verify Cartridge Authenticity

  • Confirm the cartridges are genuine HP cartridges and compatible with the ENVY 5530.
  • Check the packaging or visit the HP Cartridge Authentication Page.

Update the Printer Firmware

  • Outdated firmware might block the printer from recognizing cartridges.
  • Go to the HP Software and Drivers page, enter your printer model, and download the latest firmware for your device.
  • Follow the installation instructions to update.

Reset the Printer to Factory Settings

  • Press the Setup button (wrench icon) on the control panel.
  • Navigate to Tools > Restore Factory Defaults or Restore Settings.
  • Confirm the reset and test with HP cartridges.

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Disconnect the printer from the power source without turning it off.
  • Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power and turn the printer back on.

Disable Cartridge Protection (If Enabled)

  • Access the HP Smart App or Embedded Web Server (EWS).
  • Go to Settings > Printer Maintenance or HP Cartridge Protection.
  • Disable cartridge protection and save changes.

Try a Cold Start

  • Insert the cartridges with the printer unplugged.
  • Plug in the printer and power it on. Sometimes this clears cartridge detection issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
