I changed out my Hp printer cartridges and keep getting "Printer Failure" message.  Can I do a factory reboot or something?

Hi @Jaydubyah,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are experiencing a "Printer Failure" message after changing cartridges can be frustrating, but there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue before considering a factory reset:

  • Check Cartridge Installation: Ensure that the cartridges are installed correctly. Remove them and reinsert them firmly into their respective slots. Make sure they are properly seated and the cartridge access door is closed securely.
  • Inspect Cartridges: Check the cartridges for any protective tapes or covers that may have been left on accidentally. Remove any protective coverings before reinserting the cartridges.
  • Clean Cartridge Contacts: Sometimes, dirt or debris on the cartridge contacts can cause communication issues. Gently clean the contacts on both the cartridges and inside the printer with a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water. Allow them to dry completely before reinstalling.
  • Restart Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for about 60 seconds. Plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes reset the printer and clear minor errors.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. Check the HP website for any available updates and follow the instructions to update the firmware if needed. Update the firmware on an HP printer
  • Check for Obstructions: Make sure there are no paper jams or foreign objects obstructing the printer mechanism. Clear any jams and remove any obstructions carefully.
  • Reset Printer: If the issue persists, you can try performing a partial reset of the printer. To do this, disconnect the power cord from the printer while it is still turned on. Wait for about 30 seconds, then reconnect the power cord while holding down the "#" and "3" buttons simultaneously. Release the buttons once the printer starts up.
