when I was printing 3 pages the printer notified me my ink cartridge was very low. I took it out and shook it to get one more page printed. I have checked all the plugs, shut down the system and done a diagnostic test. Still I have a blank screen on the printer.
Please help?

Hi @ljg1559
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP printer is having trouble printing after the ink ran low, and now the screen is blank, even after trying some troubleshooting steps. Here's a systematic guide to help you resolve this issue:
1. Check the Power Supply and Connections:
- Power Button: Ensure that the printer is properly powered on. Sometimes, the printer might appear to be on, but it could be in a sleep or standby mode. Press the power button to make sure it is fully on.
- Unplug and Restart: Unplug the printer from the power source, wait for about 30 seconds, and then plug it back in. This helps reset the internal hardware and can sometimes resolve display issues.
2. Check the Ink Cartridge:
Since you mentioned that the ink cartridge was very low, it's possible that the cartridge needs to be replaced.
- Replace the Cartridge: Even though you managed to shake the cartridge to get one more page, the ink could be too low or dried up. Install a new cartridge to see if that resolves the issue.
- Reinstall the Cartridge: Take the ink cartridge out, make sure it's properly installed, and then reinstall it to ensure a proper connection.
3. Check the Printer Display:
If the screen is completely blank, there may be an issue with the printer's display or a hardware fault.
- Display Backlight: Check if the screen is completely blank or if there’s just no text. Sometimes, the backlight on the display can fail, but the screen might still be functioning. Look closely at the display in good lighting or use a flashlight.
- Reset the Printer: If the display is still blank, try performing a factory reset on the printer. This will reset all settings to their defaults, and may help restore the display:
- Factory Reset Steps: The process will vary depending on the model. You can usually access it through the printer’s menu > Settings > Restore Defaults or Reset.
4. Perform Printer Diagnostics:
You mentioned you have already performed a diagnostic test. To ensure everything is functioning, try these additional steps:
- Print a Test Page: Even if the screen is blank, you might be able to print a test page or an alignment page by holding down a specific button on the printer.
- For example, press and hold the Resume (or Cancel) button for 5 seconds on some HP printers.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
