I bought HP printer ink a while ago and am finally on my last cartridge. However, the software update on my printer is saying I can't use the ink, even though it is a genuine HP cartridge, because it's too old. I want to exchange out this old cartridge for a new one as I paid for this one and there's no way it's unusable. Seeing as how expensive ink is, there's no way I'm just tossing this cartridge and buying another one.
I couldn't find any other way to contact HP for assistance so I am posting here hoping I can get some help replacing this cartridge.
Thanks.

Hi @Jak67,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It's frustrating when your printer won't accept a genuine cartridge due to software updates. Before exchanging the cartridge, let's try a few troubleshooting steps.
- Restart the Printer: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve communication issues between the printer and cartridge.
- Check for Firmware Updates: Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. Sometimes updating the firmware can resolve compatibility issues with ink cartridges.
- Reset the Printer: Try resetting your printer to its default settings. This can sometimes resolve software-related issues.
If none of these steps work, then exchanging the cartridge might be the best option. You've paid for it, and it should be usable. If you purchased it from a retailer, they may have a return or exchange policy for defective products.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
