Hi @mckennaamus,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP printer is requesting an ink change even though you’ve just installed new cartridges, here are a few steps to try.
- Check Cartridge Installation: Ensure that the cartridges are properly installed. Remove and reinstall them, making sure they click into place.
- Remove Protective Tape: Confirm that all protective tape or plastic coverings have been removed from the cartridges.
- Clean Contacts: Gently clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridges and the printer with a lint-free cloth.
- Reset Printer: Perform a reset of your printer. Turn it off, unplug it for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
- Update Printer Firmware: Check for any available firmware updates for your printer on the HP website and install them if necessary.
- Printer Diagnostic Tools: Use any built-in diagnostic tools or software provided by HP, which may help identify and resolve issues.
- Try Another Cartridge: If possible, try a different new cartridge to rule out the possibility of a defective cartridge.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
