Product: HP 4723F3 DeskJet Printer

I purchased my printer about 5 years ago.  I was enrolled in the Instant Ink program.  After 3 years, they quit sending ink even though I was paying the monthly bills for another year after that.  I started buying the #67 cartridges at Office Depot without much issue.  Now the printer has quit working and gives me an error that it will not function with cartridges not set up under their Ink program.  I do not want to renew this program.  Am I just stuck throwing the printer in the trash and buying something other than HP?  The HP help has offered nothing but renew the program.
