Have replaced black ink multiple times the past week with brand new cartridges I print 5 to 10 pages reads full on ink still then skip a day and go to print something and it says out of ink again. How is it running out of ink if nobody is using it?

The error message says out of ink or counterfeit but they are hp cartridges

@mikeysmith281 Here's a step by step guide to help resolve the issue:

 

Step 1: Use genuine HP ink cartridges

HP recommends that you use genuine HP ink or toner supplies. HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP or refilled cartridges. If you do not use genuine HP cartridges, the steps in this document might not resolve the issue. To check the authenticity of your cartridges, go to the HP anti-counterfeit webpage (in English).

Purchase replacement cartridges and other supplies from the HP Store or local retailers.

If using genuine HP ink cartridges resolved the issue, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.

 

Step 2: Acknowledge the message, and then continue with the print job

Click or press No, OK, or Continue to dismiss the message. The printer continues with the print job.

You might have to dismiss the message every time you print.

If these steps resolved the issue, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.

I have ONLY used authentic HP ink purchased in store at Wal-Mart and office depot, no brands besides hp.

 

I have done all other suggested items including resetting printer and just had to switch black ink cartridge again this week only printed 12 pages this time.

@mikeysmith281 I'm afraid that would mean this is a hardware malfunction and I suggest you talk to HP support and discuss your options, follow the below steps to get started:

 

1) Click on this link - http://www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Click on Sign-in or select the product using the below step:

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Click on "Show Options".

Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!
