My printer prints with ink smudged all over the place.  you can see it on the roller too.  I thought my cartridge was defective , so I bought new ones which do the same exact thing.

Hi @seanhaeri,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're experiencing smudging issues with your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw printer, despite changing to new cartridges. Here are some steps you can take to address this problem:

  • Check Paper Quality: Ensure you are using the correct type of paper recommended for your printer. Low-quality or incompatible paper can cause smudging issues.
  • Check Print Settings: Verify that your print settings match the paper type you are using. Incorrect settings, such as using a glossy paper setting for plain paper, can lead to smudging.
  • Inspect the Fuser Assembly: The fuser unit is responsible for bonding toner to the paper. If it's damaged or worn out, it may not properly fuse the toner, causing smudges. Check for any visible damage or signs of wear.
  • Clean the Printer: Follow your printer's cleaning procedures to clean the inside of the printer, including the rollers and the fuser assembly. Accumulated toner or debris can cause smudging.
  • Replace Maintenance Kit (if applicable): Some printers have maintenance kits that include components like fusers and rollers. If your printer has one, replacing it might resolve the smudging issue.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Ensure your printer has the latest firmware installed. Sometimes, firmware updates include fixes for print quality issues. Update the firmware on an HP printer
