I have an HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus. Because HP ink cartridges are so expensive I bought, on Amazon with good stars, a non-HP but compatible color ink cartridges. After installing 2 colors and receiving notice "that they are not genuine HP cartridges" I then received a "Printer Failure" notice saying "There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn printer off, then on. If problem persists, contact HP. -> I turned printer off and back on several times but still same message. -> I purchased Genuine HP ink cartridges and installed. Printer acknowledged that "Genuine" cartridges were installed but I still get the same "Printer Failure" message. I have unplugged the printer and re-plugged as suggested but that didn't help.
Any suggestions? Please help and thanks for your time,
Debbie

Debbie, what model # & serial # do you have for your HP OFFICEJET 8600 I see you type in Plus. Are your sure it's not a Pro??
Did you get any ink cartridge errors, or incompatible errors or messages on your front display?? when installing the new ink cartridge???? If you did, tell me the codes or errors messages that were displayed. Pull down your cartridge door and on the cover door base there should be an HP sticker stating HP Product # (mine is 749A). Under that, there should be a Model # (mine is N911a). That printer came out in 2012 & has been a great workhorse for me. Fantastic Printer. How long have you had the printer?? Did you purchase it before 2016??? If you did then, back in 2017 HP download a firmware update on your printer & many model HP Printers. The intentions for the firmware where HP was tired of people buying 3rd party ink systems cartridges, basically getting Chinese knock offs and HP was not getting their money & getting screwed. So, they decided that they were going to block 3rd party software cartridges from being install when your ink cartridges ran out of ink. This firmware updates screwed everyone who own a HP Officejet, Deskjet printers up. Each HP cartridges since 2017 are regionalized,
meaning if you are in the United States or Canada you have to buy Official HP cartridges. The new designated cartridge is stamped with a Z10 on the label of the magenta cartridge, Z10 for the Cyan, Z10 for the Yellow, & Z10 for the black cartridges. I need you to again, pull the cartridge access panel open, wait till the cartridges goes full left. They will stop. When they stop, I need you to remove each cartridge and send me that information of all 4 cartridge. Most of the time the 3rd party cartridges will not have that information. The color, the expiration date & code numbers of each cartridge. MY cyan had a Z20(designed for European countries). My cyan was Z10 Usa Cartridge, my yellow cartridge was a Z20 (again a European cartridge), then finally my black was a Z10 US model cartridge. I am sorry to tell you first that if you got the receipt still for your new 3rd party cartridge, take it back where you bought it. It cannot be used for any HP printers ever. Such a scam. Also, before proceeding down this procedure, what country are you living in????
Get back to me tomorrow to help you out. My 8600 pros ran out of ink in the magenta cartridge, nothing worked & I had to **bleep** in India. 2 mins into the conversation & I was scammed to buy a new printer. I said WHAT!!!Refused it but HP would not listen, escalated to Supervisor, same BS, (Need new Printer) You do not need a new printer for God's sake. Keep me up to date, I been fighting mine now for 2 weeks with fraudulent charges from HP support in India. What a nightmare. You Will have to buy HP official ink cartridges from now on. but before you purchase these cartridges, we have to figure out what region of the world you are located to solve the problem. Glad to Help. I am Playing HP victims advocate from being screwed. Good night if in the States. Talk Tomorow Take Care Mr. Davis

Mr. Davis,
Thanks for your reply. My printer is a Officejet Pro 8600 Plus, Product CN579A, Model N911g and yes, I am in the States.
I bought HP z10 cartridges and when I put them in the Yellow and Cyan both said damaged cartridges. I went and bought more official HP cartridges z10. After doing the unplug and wait then plug as HP suggested I put in the BRAND NEW cartridges only to get the same "One or more cartridges appear to be damaged". C & Y indicated. "Remove them and replace with new cartridges" I do not receive any error numbers only the notice I have bold above. I do not know how but am now wondering if the printer is actually damaging the ink cartridges.
I am at a loss and will appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Debbie

Good morning, Debbie, Got same exact printer & also in the States. I am going to send you a Youtube video link which is actually performing a hard reset of the printer. Watch very closely because most of the printer icons will disappear when HP is recognizing a printer ink issue. Do not **bleep**!!! You will get directed to HP in India or the Philippians where they will proceed to tell you your printer is out of warranty & you need a new printer. NO YOU DON'T . Spent 8 hours going thru their YAK, YAK, getting supervisor, Manager then switching from phone support to chat support. Watch and preform the hard reset & if that doesn't solve it, we will fix that perfectly good workhorse of a printer. The new HP printers are junk & customers reviews prove it. Stay Away. Take Care, Stay Safe, & let me know. Mr. Davis

Good afternoon Debbieg211, Mr. Davis, I am not sure if you were able to get your printer fix yet? Yesterday, I was able to receive the regional reset codes for the printer. It worked!! I would recommend getting a hold of Bob Hendrick who posted so much information on my case. This Guy is simply amazing. Look him up on my post. Let me know Mr. Davis.
