I have an OfficeJet Pro 8600 that prints with white streaks.  I've gone thru all the cleaning, but nothing changed.  Is the problem the printhead?  Is it easy to replace?  I really like this machine and don’t want to replace it.

Hi @Mszoo13,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue white streaks in printouts on the HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus are often due to a printhead issue, especially if you’ve already cleaned it thoroughly without improvement. Here are a few steps to try, as well as options if the printhead needs replacement:

1. Perform a Deep Cleaning

  • The HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 has a “Deep Cleaning” or “Second-Level Cleaning” option accessible from the printer's settings or maintenance menu. This process can sometimes clear up more stubborn clogs than standard cleaning.

2. Check Ink Levels

  • Low or depleted ink cartridges may also cause streaks. If any cartridges are low, try replacing them with fresh, genuine HP ink to ensure optimal performance.

3. Align the Printhead

  • Misaligned printheads can also cause streaks. The alignment feature is in the printer's settings and can help improve print quality.

4. Manually Clean the Printhead Contacts

  • Sometimes, residue builds up on the electrical contacts between the printhead and the printer, affecting print quality. To clean:
    • Power off the printer and unplug it.
    • Open the printer to access the printhead and ink cartridges, remove the cartridges, and gently clean the contacts on the printhead with a lint-free cloth and distilled water.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, the printhead may indeed be faulty.
