HP Smart Tank Plus 651 Wireless All-in-One

When printing the page starts in the right color and then quicklyl changes.  i.e. I'm doing name badges with orange borders. The first two are correct and then the page changes to pink.

Hi @ShopperAnn,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can imagine how frustrating it must be to see your carefully designed name badges printing in the wrong colors, especially when the first few come out perfect and then suddenly shift to pink. Let's fix this together with some warmth and clarity.

This issue is typically caused by ink delivery inconsistenciesprinthead problems, or paper and settings mismatches. Here's how to troubleshoot it step-by-step:

Troubleshooting Steps

1. Check Ink Levels

Low ink, even if not empty, can cause color shifts.

  • On the printer display, go to Menu > Ink Levels.
  • Refill any tank that’s low, especially yellow and magenta, which combine to make orange.

2. Print a Diagnostic Page

This helps identify which color is misbehaving.

  • On the printer screen:
Menu > Tools > Troubleshooting > Print Quality
  • Look for fading, missing colors, or streaks.

If orange turns pink, yellow ink may be underperforming.

3. Clean the Printheads

If the diagnostic page shows defects:

  • Go to:
Menu > Tools > Troubleshooting > Clean Printhead
  • Repeat cleaning if needed, but not more than 3 times in a row.

4. Align the Printheads

Misalignment can cause color blending issues.

  • Go to:
Menu > Tools > Troubleshooting > Align Printhead

5. Check Paper and Print Settings

  • Use HP Advanced Photo Paper or ColorLok paper for best results.
  • In your print dialog:
    • Set Paper Type correctly.
    • Choose the Best Quality.
    • Ensure Color Mode is set to Color, not grayscale.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
