Hi @KellyHernandez ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing the printing quality of your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-In-One Printer is poor, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially improve the output:

  • Check Ink Levels: Make sure that the ink cartridges have enough ink. Low ink levels can affect print quality.
  • Clean Print Heads: The print heads may be clogged, leading to streaks or smudges on the printed pages. Most printers have a utility for cleaning the print heads, which you can access through the printer's settings menu.
  • Align Print Heads: Sometimes, aligning the print heads can improve print quality, especially if you're experiencing issues like blurry or misaligned text.
  • Use High-Quality Paper: Low-quality paper can absorb ink unevenly or cause smudging. Using higher-quality paper specifically designed for inkjet printers can improve print quality.
  • Adjust Print Settings: Check the print settings on your computer or device. Make sure that you're using the appropriate print settings for the type of document you're printing. For example, if you're printing photos, use the "Photo" or "Best Quality" setting.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. Sometimes, firmware updates can address issues related to print quality. Update the firmware on an HP printer
  • Check for Driver Updates: Make sure that you have the latest drivers installed for your printer. You can usually download them from the HP website or through the HP Smart app.
  • Replace Ink Cartridges: If the ink cartridges are old or low-quality, they may not provide optimal print results. Consider replacing them with genuine HP ink cartridges.
  • Inspect Printer Components: Check for any obstructions or damage to the printer's rollers, paper tray, or other components that could be affecting print quality.
