Printing in Black and White only

HP Officejet 6700 Premium
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)


I have a problem with my Officejet 6700 Premium. My printer will only print in Black and White. I know it's not a driver issue as it does the same when I try to copy in colour with the PC switched off. All the catridges are genuine HP and are reasonably full (the least is at 40%).  If I print through the pc I can change the settings to greyscale and I get slighlty more contrast and less deep blacks where the colours are supposed to be. I have run all the print quality reports and been through the online troubleshooter but no difference. I have also tried resetting the printer nack to factory defaults

I know it is an old printer but I have a full set of new cartridges and other than this issue it works perfectly.

Any ideas?

If you have already performed the steps from the document Color or Black Ink is Not Printing and the issue persists, it could be a hardware failure.

Please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.


If you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty. If yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from. Check next to your profile name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.
