HP ENVY 5055 All-in-One Printer

Hello...

Tonight I went to print out a letter, in black. I got faded lines -- where there were any. I tried a color web page, but only the color printed, and that not very well.

I went through the cleaning process, but to no avail. According to the HP app, my cartridges have enough ink.

Computer specs...  2020 MacBook Pro, 13". MacOS 13.6.9, Ventura.

Thanks folks.

Hi @Ghidorah ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP ENVY 5055 All-in-One Printer is experiencing issues with faded or missing prints, despite having enough ink in the cartridges.

Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

1. Check Ink Cartridges

  • Remove and Reseat Cartridges: Open the printer and carefully remove the ink cartridges. Check for any protective tape or packaging left on the cartridges and remove it if present. Reseat the cartridges firmly back into their slots.
  • Inspect Cartridges: Look for any visible damage or leakage on the cartridges. If the cartridges are damaged, they may need to be replaced.
  • Use Genuine HP Ink: Make sure you are using genuine HP ink cartridges, as third-party or refilled cartridges can sometimes cause printing issues.

2. Run the Printer’s Cleaning Utility Again

  • Even though you've already tried the cleaning process, running it multiple times can sometimes help clear out any clogs or air bubbles in the printhead.
  • To access the cleaning utility:
    • Open the HP Smart app on your Mac.
    • Go to Printer Settings or Tools.
    • Find the Print Quality Tools or Maintenance section and run the Clean Printhead function.

3. Align the Printhead

  • Sometimes, print alignment can affect print quality. In the HP Smart app, find the option to align the printhead and follow the instructions.

4. Check the Paper Type and Quality Settings

  • Ensure you are using the correct type of paper for your prints. Low-quality or incorrect paper can affect print quality.
  • In the print dialog on your Mac, ensure the correct paper type and print quality settings are selected.

5. Print a Diagnostic Page

  • This can help identify if the issue is with a specific color or part of the printhead.
  • To print a diagnostic page:
    • Go to the Printer Settings in the HP Smart app.
    • Find and select the option to print a Print Quality Diagnostic Page.

6. Update Printer Firmware and Software Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. Sometimes, firmware updates can fix bugs or improve functionality.
  • Check for any available updates for the HP Smart app or printer drivers on your Mac.

7. Manually Clean the Printhead

  • If the above steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to manually clean the printhead. This process involves removing the printhead and gently cleaning it with distilled water and a lint-free cloth.
  • Refer to the printer’s manual or HP’s website for detailed instructions on how to safely perform this.

8. Replace Ink Cartridges

  • Even if the HP app indicates there is enough ink, cartridges can sometimes malfunction. If possible, try replacing the cartridges with new genuine HP ones to see if the issue persists.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Gaya... can you recommend an authorized HP repair shop in the Phoenix / Mesa, AZ area? Obviously the more reputable, the better.

Thanks.

Keith
