Can someone confirm if this printer comes with an introductory toner cartridge? I am printing mostly text and only printed 104 pages on this cartridge which is beyond alarming. The yield for a regular cartridge is ~900 pages. I'll return the printer if I have to purchase a new cartridge every week for 100 pages.

Hi @gbaker00,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Yes, your HP LaserJet M139w printer does include a setup toner cartridge, which is different from a standard toner cartridge.
Here's what you need to know:
- The setup cartridge is meant only for initial printer setup.
- Its yield is much lower than the standard cartridge (typically around 100–200 pages, depending on content).
- Once the setup process is complete, HP recommends using a standard yield toner cartridge (like the HP 141A Black LaserJet Toner), which is rated for up to ~950 pages under standard conditions (5% page coverage).
So the 104 pages you got from the setup cartridge are within the expected range. It’s not defective — just limited by design.
To get the expected page yield, you’ll want to replace the setup toner with a regular or high-yield cartridge going forward. That will make printing more economical over time.
Would you like help finding the best value toner for your printer model?
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
