Hi @DrScottK
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw is producing prints with red ink bleed along the left edge, here are some troubleshooting steps you can take:
1. Check Toner Cartridge
- Inspect the Toner: Make sure the toner cartridge is properly installed. Remove and reseat it to ensure a good connection.
- Check for Damage: Look for any physical damage or leaks in the toner cartridge. If it's damaged, consider replacing it.
2. Clean the Printer
- Remove and Clean:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Remove the toner cartridges and gently clean any excess toner from the printer’s interior, especially around the drum area.
- Use a lint-free cloth to wipe down the inside.
3. Check for Paper Issues
- Use the Right Paper: Ensure you’re using the correct type and size of paper recommended for your printer.
- Paper Quality: Low-quality paper can cause issues with ink bleed. Use good-quality paper designed for laser printers.
4. Print a Cleaning Page
- Cleaning Mode: Many HP printers have a built-in cleaning function:
- Access the printer’s settings via the control panel.
- Look for a Maintenance or Cleaning option and run it. This may help clear any residual toner causing the bleed.
5. Update Printer Firmware
- Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. Visit the HP Support website for the latest updates.
6. Check for Software Issues
- Print Settings: Verify your print settings in the print dialog box. Ensure you’re not using any special effects or color settings that could be affecting print quality.
- Test Print: Try printing a test page to see if the issue persists across different documents.
7. Run Diagnostic Tests
- Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool to run diagnostic tests and identify issues with your printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
