I have an HP DeskJet 2622 all in one printer. While in the middle of printing it suddenly starting saying there was a cartridge error. Upon further investigation I realized it is reading a regular HP ink cartridge as an Instant Ink cartridge.
When I put the tri-color cartridge in the printer a little envelope with a droplet appears. This cartridge was bought at Walmart months ago so I know it's not Instant Ink. The last time I checked it the cartridge is still nearly full as I don't print much. It was plugged into a surge protector as my area had back to back storms. I unplugged it from the surge protector and into a wall and did the reset that is listed in the help center. I also did a factory reset to no avail. I do not want to go and buy another tri-color cartridge when this one is full so I would appreciate any assistance in resolving this.

Hi @SCrew5,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It's frustrating to encounter cartridge errors on your HP DeskJet 2622 printer, especially when it misidentifies a regular ink cartridge as an Instant Ink cartridge. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue.
- Check for HP Instant Ink Account: Make sure that you haven't inadvertently signed up for an HP Instant Ink subscription, which could lead to this kind of error. If you are not subscribed to Instant Ink, then this might be a simple misunderstanding.
- Verify Cartridge Authenticity: Ensure that the ink cartridge you're using is indeed an authentic HP ink cartridge and not a counterfeit or third-party cartridge. HP printers often have difficulties with non-genuine cartridges.
- Clean the Cartridge Contacts: Remove the cartridge and clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridge and the printer with a lint-free cloth. Reinstall the cartridge properly and make sure it's securely in place.
- Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute, and then plug it back in. Turn the printer on and check if the error persists.
- Check for Firmware Updates: Outdated printer firmware can sometimes cause compatibility issues. Visit the HP support website to see if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model, and follow the instructions to update it.
- Replace the Cartridge: If you have another genuine HP ink cartridge available, you might want to try replacing the tri-color cartridge to see if the issue is specific to that cartridge. Sometimes, cartridges can go bad or have electronic issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
