Print cartridge failure even after trying two new cyan cartridges!

@CJBSR1, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The “Print cartridge failure” error on the HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus (N911g)—especially after attempting to use two new cyan cartridges—typically indicates a cartridge detection issue. This could be due to several factors:

Such as,

  1. Cartridge not seated properly
  2. Dirty or damaged electrical contacts
  3. Third-party or remanufactured cartridges not recognized
  4. Firmware conflicts or glitches
  5. Printhead failure (especially if the issue is isolated to one color)

Steps to Resolve

Perform a Basic Reset

  • With the printer powered on, disconnect the power cord from the back.
  • Unplug it from the wall outlet.
  • Wait for 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on.

Inspect the Cartridge & Contacts

  • Remove all cartridges, not just the cyan one.
  • Check the cyan cartridge:
    • Is it an original HP cartridge? (e.g., HP 951 Cyan)
    • Look for any damage, leaks, or if the protective tape is still attached.
  • Clean the electrical contacts:
    • Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water.
    • Wipe the gold contacts on the cartridge and the corresponding contacts inside the carriage.
    • Allow them to dry for 5–10 minutes.
  • Reinsert all cartridges firmly, placing the cyan cartridge in last.

Test the Cartridge in Another Slot

  • If possible, try the cyan cartridge in a different HP 8600 series printer to rule out a cartridge fault.

Update the Firmware

  • Visit HP Drivers & Downloads.
  • Download the latest firmware for your model.
  • Install it via USB or the HP Smart app.

If the issue persists only with the cyan cartridge after following the above steps, your printhead may be faulty. Then, please visit the nearest HP authorized service center, the service team will check and assist you.
