Ink was low and my husband replaced the black ink cartridge yesterday.... now printer won't print black or B&W when selecting draft (black and white or grayscale).... I've done a hard reset, cleaned print heads and run alignment (only prints the color sections on this and then the machine cannot scan the printout - because it can't read it with the black ink missing).

I've also removed all cartridges and unplugged the printer, turned it back on and replaced the cartridges (not with new cartridges but the same ones). Running out of ideas (as well as patience and time) so any help appreciated.

If your HP 8025e printer is not printing black after replacing the ink cartridge and you've already tried several troubleshooting steps, here’s a systematic approach to resolve the issue:

1. Check the New Black Ink Cartridge

  • Ensure that the replacement black ink cartridge is the correct model for your HP 8025e. Even slight differences in cartridge models can affect compatibility.
  • Remove the new black ink cartridge and inspect it for any protective tape or packaging that may still be on it. Make sure it’s installed correctly and securely in the printer.
  • If possible, try another new black ink cartridge to rule out the possibility of a defective cartridge.

2. Clean Printhead Nozzles

  • Run the deep cleaning cycle from the printer’s maintenance menu. This process can help clear any blockages in the printhead nozzles.
  • If the deep cleaning doesn’t help, you may need to manually clean the printhead. Refer to your printer’s manual for specific instructions on how to clean the printhead properly.

3. Check Ink Levels

Verify Ink Levels:

  • Ensure that the black ink cartridge is not reporting as low or empty. Sometimes, a new cartridge might not be recognized properly.

Printer’s Ink Monitoring System:

  • Access the printer’s ink monitoring system through its software or control panel to check the ink levels and status.

4. Update Printer Drivers and Firmware

  • Go to the HP website and download the latest drivers for your HP 8025e printer model. Install these drivers to ensure compatibility and address potential software issues.
  • Check if there’s a firmware update available for your printer on the HP website. Updating the firmware can fix bugs and improve printer performance.

5. Check Print Settings

  • Ensure that the print settings are set to print in black and white or grayscale, and not set to a mode that uses color inks.
  • Confirm that draft mode is correctly selected in the print settings. Sometimes, print quality settings might inadvertently affect printing.

6. Perform Printer Calibration:

  • Perform a printer calibration or alignment process to ensure that the printer is properly set up and configured.

7. Reset the Printer

  • Perform a Factory Reset:
    • If all else fails, perform a factory reset to restore the printer to its default settings. This can resolve any lingering configuration issues

Thank you! We replaced the cartridge and it’s working - so the initial new replacement was defective.

I have exact same issue.  all 4 cartridges are new ink.    after cleaning heads, turn off, etc. Cyan, magenta and yellow are printing great.  Black zero

I replaced the new black cartridge and it worked. So assuming it was a faulty cartridge.... hopefully that works for you too.
