Why am I still getting error flashing lights?

Hi @Husker49,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I understand that you are having issues with blinking lights.

When your HP ENVY 6458e All-in-One Printer keeps flashing error lights after replacing the ink cartridge, it’s as if the machine is trying to tell you something isn’t quite right. Let’s go step-by-step to resolve this in a sensory-rich way.

1. Check the Cartridge Seating

  • Feel the cool plastic of the cartridge as you open the printer’s ink compartment. Pull out the cartridge and gently press it back in with a firm but smooth motion, ensuring it snaps into place. Imagine the satisfying click as it fits perfectly.
  • Run your fingers along the contacts—are they clean and free of dust or ink? If not, take a soft cloth and wipe them carefully, so that the metallic shine is visible.

2. Close the Printer Lid Firmly

  • As you close the printer lid, press down with a gentle push, making sure it’s locked. You want to feel the final “click” as the latch engages, like the final step in securing a box.

3. Power Cycle the Printer

  • Reach for the power button, feeling its smooth surface, and press it down until the light fades, like a deep exhale. Unplug the power cord from the wall.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds. Let your senses pick up the quiet stillness as the printer rests, then plug it back in and press power. Feel the slight resistance as you press the button again, and wait for the printer to hum back to life.

4. Reset the Ink Cartridge Alignment

  • You’ll hear the mechanical whirr as the printer starts up. Let it do its thing. If the flashing lights continue, check the display or app for an alignment option. Tap through the settings, feeling the screen under your fingers, and initiate the alignment process.
  • Listen closely—there’s a distinct sound as the printer pulls the alignment sheet through. Once it’s done, gently place your hand on the warm paper that emerges.

5. Check for Firmware Updates

  • On your computer, you’ll feel the keys under your fingers as you type into the HP Smart app or printer software.
  • Navigate to Settings or Support and check for any firmware updates—you might sense the quiet anticipation as the printer updates itself to sync with the new cartridge.

You may also refer to Blinking Lights.

Once you’ve completed these steps, watch the lights. Do they stop flashing? Feel the relief as your printer returns to normal, ready to work. If not, let me know how it responds.

Please mark this post as Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
