HP Officejet Pro 8620 e-All-in-One Printer

I have HP Office Jet Pro 8620. We put in a new printhead.  However, it won't print....just a very very faint copy.  All the inks are filled.  Why can't I print in black and white or color?   Thank you

@samsas1, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you've recently replaced the printhead on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8620 and are now experiencing very faint or unreadable prints, here's a comprehensive troubleshooting guide to help resolve the issue:

🔧 Step-by-Step Troubleshooting:

1. Run the Printhead Cleaning Utility

Even with a new printhead, you may need to prime the ink flow:

  • Go to the printer's control panel.
  • Tap Setup > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead.
  • Run this 2-3 times for proper ink flow.

💡 Caution: Stop after 3 cleanings to avoid wasting ink if no improvement is seen.

2. Check Ventilation on Ink Cartridges

Ensure ink can flow properly:

  • Remove each cartridge.
  • Examine the small vent hole on top (near the HP logo).
  • Gently clean any blocked vents with a pin or soft cloth.

3. Use the Print Quality Diagnostic Tool

  • From the printer's touchscreen:
    • Navigate to Setup > Reports > Print Quality Report.
  • Analyze if black and colors are printing at all.

If some colors are missing or faded, it may indicate a clog or connection issue.

4. Verify Ink Flow to the New Printhead

  • Open the printer lid with power on to move the carriage to the center.
  • Firmly press each cartridge to ensure it's fully clicked in.
  • Check for ink visibility on the printhead nozzles (gently blot with a paper towel).

5. Align the Printhead

  • On the printer screen:
    • Go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Align Printer.
  • Proper alignment is crucial for print quality.

6. Check Firmware and Software

  • Ensure the printer has the latest firmware.
  • Update the printer driver on your computer (especially for USB or Wi-Fi printing).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
