My HP officejet pro 9018 All-in-one printer doesn't recognize my insta ink replacement cartridge.  Turned printer off/on leaving power off for 5 + minutes, unplugged for 5+ minutes and still no joy.  Cleaned contacts on cartride, etc.

Hi @TDCline,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 9018 All-in-One printer is not recognizing your Instant Ink replacement cartridge, there are several troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue.

Check Cartridge Compatibility: Ensure that the replacement cartridge you are using is compatible with your HP OfficeJet Pro 9018. Cartridges that are not designed for your specific printer model may not be recognized.

Confirm Proper Installation:

  • Make sure the replacement cartridge is properly installed. It should click into place when inserted.
  • Check if there's any protective tape or packaging on the cartridge that needs to be removed.

Inspect Cartridge Contacts:

  • Examine the cartridge's electrical contacts for any dirt or debris. Clean them gently with a lint-free cloth or an alcohol swab.
  • Similarly, check the contact points inside the printer where the cartridge makes contact. Ensure they are clean and free from any residue.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait for at least 5 minutes.
  • Plug the power cord back in and turn the printer on.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure your printer has the latest firmware. Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve compatibility issues. Visit the HP support website to check for and install any available updates.

Check Your Instant Ink Subscription:

  • Make sure your Instant Ink subscription is active and that the cartridge you received is part of your subscription. If your subscription has lapsed or you're using a cartridge not associated with your account, the printer may not recognize it.

Check for Error Messages:

  • Look for any error messages or notifications on the printer's display screen or through the printer software on your computer. This can provide more specific information about the issue.

Remember that using non-HP or refilled cartridges can sometimes lead to recognition issues. It's generally recommended to use genuine HP cartridges for optimal performance and to avoid compatibility problems.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
